For this week's lesson we take a look and expand upon the groove that featured in the most recent video. The focus will be on ghost notes and independence between the snare and kick, while the we play 1/4 notes on the hi hat, or cymbal of your choice.

For this week's lesson we are taking a look at two crucial rudiments to learn and practice and then utilising them between the kick, ride and snare drum. This exercise works great as a two measure drum fill or could play a nice part in a drum solo.

For this week's lesson we are taking the most basic groove - 8th notes on the hi hats, kicks on 1 & 3 and snares landing on 2 & 4. Keeping the kicks and snares in the same place, we will then play 16th note triplets on the hi hats before we take the same pattern to the rest of the kit and include the toms. For this week's lesson we have got a quick and fun little sextuplet drum fill played between the snare, kick and floor tom. A great little pattern to try out especially if you enjoy playing a slightly stripped back drum kit. The fill is broken down into two patterns of nine - RLRKRLRKK followed by a nice six note sticking pattern for the end - RLRKRL. For this week's lesson we are dipping our proverbial toe into playing linear grooves. This lesson is geared towards beginner drummers, but for those of you at intermediate level that have not explored the endless ideas you can get from playing one note at a time, this is a great concept that will help you in a number of areas of your playing.

For this week's lesson I have put together what I believe is one of the best concepts for beginner drummers. We will be taking simple grooves between the kick, snare and hi hat, and then orchestrating the same sticking pattern around the kit with a few voicing ideas. This will hopefully open the door to new drummers finding their own voice on the drum kit and using their imagination to create some inventive grooves. For this week's video I am sharing a four bar exercise that has helped me make progress with my double kick drum pedal. I recently picked up a double pedal and have been practicing a number of exercises to improve my stability while playing, along with consistency with my weaker foot. This sequence is also helping me with the transition between playing a typical 16th note groove with the feet and a simple linear drum fill. It is still early days yet and I have many more hours to practice, but i can feel the progress and it feels good! I hope this exercise helps you out too.
